The 1st session of the 16th National Assembly adopted a resolution on the establishment of Dong Nai City, which officially took effect on April 30, 2026. This marks a historic milestone, providing a strong impetus for the locality to achieve comprehensive breakthroughs, transition its growth model from extensive to intensive development, and enhance the quality of life for its residents.
Dong Nai, once marked by the footsteps of Marquis Nguyen Huu Canh during his southward expansion mission, has since undergone nearly 330 years of formation and development. Throughout this historical journey, Dong Nai people have consistently upheld a patriotic tradition, demonstrating resilience in overcoming challenges while nurturing the aspiration to rise alongside the nation.
The 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975–2026) is further etched in history by a new milestone: Dong Nai has officially been elevated to city status. This is not only a political event of particular significance, but also a historic developmental milestone affirming a profound transformation in the locality’s position, stature, and aspiration to rise.
On the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2026), and in celebration of the official establishment of Dong Nai city (effective from April 30, 2026), a delegation of provincial leaders visited the Provincial Martyrs' Cemetery (Long Binh ward) on the morning of April 29.

Earlier, the National Assembly had promulgated Resolution No. 30/2026/QH16 dated April 24, 2026, on the establishment of Dong Nai City, , which will take effect from April 30, 2026.
From April 30, 2026, Dong Nai will officially become Vietnam’s seventh city. This marks an important milestone in its development journey after years of building internal strength, ushering in a new phase marked by higher expectations, broader vision and greater responsibility.
On April 27, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee (PPC) and Chairman of the Dong Nai People’s Committee Nguyen Van Ut chaired a hybrid meeting, combining in-person attendance with online connections to agencies, units and localities, to review preparations for the launch of the urban government model.
