Mobilizing social resources to help residents secure stable homes

This August, the family of Nguyen Thi Muoi in Dai Phuoc Commune was delighted to move into a new home built with social resources mobilized by the commune's Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee.

Muoi's family is among hundreds of households across Dong Nai City that have received assistance to build permanent homes since the beginning of 2026. Through the joint efforts of organizations, individuals, relatives and local residents, these new homes are helping disadvantaged families stabilize their lives and secure better living conditions.

Joy of having a new home

Since the beginning of 2026, more than 200 households across the city have celebrated moving into permanent homes. Since May, under Resolution No. 05-NQ/TU dated May 1, 2026, issued by the Dong Nai City Party Committee’s Executive Board as part of the special 500-day-and-night emulation campaign themed "Solidarity – Discipline – Efficiency – Breakthrough, Building a Civilized and Modern Dong Nai," the VFF and its member organizations have mobilized social resources to provide housing assistance to nearly 100 households in Minh Duc, Thuan Loi, Ta Lai, Xuan Que, Dau Giay and Long Khanh communes and wards.

Among the beneficiaries is the family of Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc in La Nga Commune. Truc, 60, relies on casual labor for her income but is unable to work regularly due to poor health. Her husband collects recyclable materials, earning about VND50,000 a day. When the commune's Red Cross Society and Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims helped connect the family with a benefactor who provided funding to build a permanent home, Truc and her family were overjoyed.

According to Nguyen Cao Chi, Chairman of both the La Nga Commune Red Cross Society and the commune's Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims, the organizations aims to mobilize funding to build three permanent homes for residents facing housing difficulties in 2026. Two families have already received new homes. For the remaining household, the organizations are continuing their fundraising efforts and plan to complete and hand over the house before the 2027 Lunar New Year.

Similarly, the family of Tran Van An in Ta Lai Commune moved into their new home 20 days ago. An said the house cost VND100 million to build, including VND70 million raised and donated by the city Red Cross Society. The remaining amount came from the family's savings and contributions from relatives. Having lived for years in a deteriorating house as a poor household, An's family was delighted to finally have a solid new home.

Efforts to help residents secure stable housing

The VFF and its member organizations are continuing to mobilize and connect social resources to help residents secure stable housing as part of the special 500-day-and-night emulation campaign.

Nguyen Tan Phu, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai City VFF Committee, said Dong Nai had completed its campaign to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing ahead of schedule. However, many families still cannot build homes of their own due to various circumstances. "Therefore, the city's VFF Committee has identified this as a regular and long-term movement, linked to the campaign “All people unite to build new-style rural areas and civilized urban areas.” We consider this an indicator of how effectively people's living conditions are being cared for," Phu said. The initiative aims to strengthen the role of grassroots VFF organizations and mobilize all available resources toward the goal of ensuring that "every resident has a sustainable and happy home."

On this basis, the city's Fund for the Poor Mobilization Board is coordinating field surveys in communes and wards to support the construction and repair of Great Solidarity Houses for poor and near-poor households. The Standing Board of the city's VFF Committee - the Standing members of the Fund for the Poor Mobilization Board have provided guidance on fundraising and expanding the fund, while continuing to prioritize the Great Solidarity House program and other social welfare activities linked to the campaign "All people unite to build new-style rural areas and civilized urban areas."

The city's Fund for the Poor Mobilization Board has assigned the standing committees of VFF organizations of the communes and wards to directly inspect and assess housing assistance applications, ensuring transparency and compliance with regulations. Local authorities are responsible for completing and archiving the dossiers, as well as being accountable for the appraisal results and recommendations for assistance.

According to Nguyen Tan Phu, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai City VFF Committee, in addition to supporting the construction and repair of homes for poor and disadvantaged households, the committee is coordinating with relevant sectors and localities to review and compile a list of families of Heroic Vietnamese Mothers across the city so they can receive housing assistance funded by Vingroup.

Nguyen Thi Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Dai Phuoc Commune VFF Committee, said that while building permanent homes for poor and disadvantaged households, the commune had proactively mobilized additional local resources beyond the initial funding to make the houses more comfortable and well-equipped. This has also helped strengthen solidarity within local communities. For example, when three permanent homes were handed over to residents in August 2026, each family initially received VND100 million in construction assistance. The commune's VFF Committee then mobilized an additional approximately VND20 million per household in the form of essential household items. As a result, families moving into their new homes also received basic household goods, giving them better conditions to start their new lives.
