NA Chairman signs resolution on establishing Dong Nai City *Establishment of the People's Court and People's Procuracy of Dong Nai City

National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man has signed Resolution No. 30/2026/QH16 on the establishment of Dong Nai City.

Accordingly, Dong Nai City is established based on the entire natural area and population size of Dong Nai province. The city shares borders with Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong province, Tay Ninh province, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. The resolution takes effect on April 30, 2026.

The NA has also assigned the Government, along with the People's Council and People's Committee of Dong Nai province – which will transition to the People's Council and People's Committee of Dong Nai City upon the resolution’s effective date – and relevant agencies to be responsible for implementing the resolution. These units are tasked with arranging and consolidating the organizational structure of local agencies and organizations in accordance with regulations; stabilizing local residents’ livelihoods, and ensuring socio-economic development, national defense and security across the locality.

Agencies, organizations, and units whose names are linked to Dong Nai Province are renamed to reflect Dong Nai City and operate under the new name from the date the resolution takes effect.

Existing documents and legal papers issued by competent agencies or officials before the effective date of the resolution that remain valid or within their period of use shall continue to be applied in accordance with the law until their expiration or until they are amended, supplemented, replaced, annulled, or revoked by the competent agencies or officials.

From the effective date of the resolution, in addition to the mechanisms and policies applicable to cities, the specific mechanisms, mechanisms, and policies for Dong Nai province will continue to be implemented in Dong Nai City until the end of the application period or until decisions are made by the competent agencies.

Dong Nai City covers more than 12,737 square kilometers and has a population of 4,491,408 people. The city comprises 95 commune-level administrative units, including 33 wards and 62 communes.

Along with signing the resolution on the establishment of Dong Nai City, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man also signed Resolution No. 252/NQ-UBTVQH16 of the NA Standing Committee on the formation of the People's Court and the People's Procuracy of Dong Nai City.

Accordingly, the People's Court of Dong Nai City is established on the basis of the existing People's Court of Dong Nai province, while the People's Procuracy of Dong Nai City is established on the basis of the existing People's Procuracy of Dong Nai province. The resolution also takes effect on April 30, 2026.

The NA Standing Committee tasks the Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court and the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy, within their respective duties and powers, with guiding the implementation of the contents of the resolution under their management; setting up the organizational structure; deciding on staffing, the number of judges, prosecutors, other civil servants, and employees of the People's Court and People's Procuracy of Dong Nai City, as well as other matters under their authority in compliance with the law.
