With their expertise, knowledge, ability to build connections and spirit of innovation, female intellectuals in Dong Nai have been making significant contributions to the city’s development.

At a recent scientific seminar on promoting the role of female intellectuals in science and technology research and digital transformation to contribute to Dong Nai’s sustainable development, jointly organized by the city’s Union of Science and Technology Associations (USTA) and the city’s Association of Female Intellectuals (AFI), participants shared various effective models and approaches, highlighting the contributions of female intellectuals in the new context.

Contributing knowledge and expertise across fields

Master Pham Thi Que Tran, a lecturer at Dong Nai University in Tam Hiep ward, said that in response to the need to develop human resources with not only strong professional and technological skills but also firm political mettle, lecturers and female intellectuals at the university have taken the lead in applying digital tools to improve teaching quality.

Que Tran has made extensive use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to transform theoretical lessons into mind maps, illustrative materials and in-depth video content. She has also applied gamification to turn each class into a lively “arena of ideas” while creating a flexible self-study environment that enables students to access learning materials and review lessons independently.

“The effectiveness of this approach has been demonstrated. The proportion of students achieving good and excellent grades in the subject has risen sharply over successive semesters, particularly among economics students. More importantly, this approach has changed students’ perception of theoretical courses as dry and uninteresting, shifting them from passively absorbing knowledge to actively mastering it,” Que Tran said.

In a presentation at the seminar, a representative of the City Party Committee's Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilization said that female intellectuals working in advisory roles are required, in the new context, to shift from administrative thinking to strategic thinking based on knowledge, data, science and innovation. They need to develop a broader vision and help shape development, contributing to the renewal of the Party’s leadership methods and improving governance across the political system. Female intellectuals engaged in advisory work have conducted research, drawn on practical experience, advised leaders and contributed to the implementation of numerous important documents. They have also advised on the organization of study and dissemination activities, provided guidance on implementation, monitored and followed up on progress, conducted preliminary reviews and assessments, and proposed solutions to difficulties and obstacles arising during implementation. In addition, female intellectuals have taken the lead in conducting research, reviewing practical experience, contributing to theoretical development and proposing new solutions to support the leadership and direction of Party committees. Since 2023, advisory agencies have implemented 48 scientific research projects, 13 of which have been led by female intellectuals.

Chairwoman of the USTA Hoang Thi Bich Hang said female intellectuals are making increasingly significant contributions in scientific research, education, healthcare, management, production, business, innovation and digital transformation. Many research projects, initiatives and solutions developed by female intellectuals have been put into practice, helping address real-life issues, improve work efficiency and promote local socio-economic development.

Creating environment for female intellectuals to contribute

Hoang Thi Bich Hang said the potential, knowledge and creativity of female intellectuals remain considerable. It is therefore necessary to continue creating a favorable environment for them to develop their research and creative capabilities, while strengthening connections and cooperation, promoting technology transfer and bringing scientific research results into practical application.

In her presentation, Meritorious Teacher and PhD Nguyen Thi Thu Lan, Chairwoman of the AFI, said that to better harness the potential of female intellectuals, Dong Nai needs mechanisms and policies for commissioning research to address practical issues facing the locality, with priority given to projects capable of generating clear and tangible impacts. There should be support mechanisms to help research findings be further developed and translated into practical applications. She called for support mechanisms to help research findings be further developed and translated into practical value. Thu Lan also highlighted the role of universities, research institutes, businesses and the AFI in creating an environment that enables female intellectuals to contribute to science and technology, innovation and digital transformation.

Regarding the role of female intellectuals’ association chapters at all levels, Master Hoang Thi Lai, Vice Chairwoman of the AFI, said that over the years, these association chapters have played an important role in bringing together female intellectuals and helping them make the most of their potential. However, in response to the country’s and city’s new development requirements, merely bringing female intellectuals together is no longer enough. The association chapters need to do more to identify, nurture and support talented women while strengthening their role in building connections, providing support, inspiring and creating opportunities for female intellectuals, particularly young women, to develop.

“Practice shows that wherever knowledge is valued, creativity is encouraged and intellectuals are given favorable conditions to develop their capabilities, new drivers of development will emerge.”

Dr. Ngo Thi Huyen of the AFI’s chapter at Lac Hong University in Tran Bien ward said that efforts made by female intellectuals themselves play a decisive role in realizing their potential. Therefore, each female intellectual needs to proactively improve her professional qualifications and continuously update her knowledge of emerging technologies, particularly high-tech fields that Dong Nai is seeking to develop. They should also develop clear personal career strategies aligned with the locality’s development priorities and keep abreast of the city’s key development tasks, thereby proposing research projects and ideas that address practical needs. When provided with a favorable environment and appropriate encouragement, female intellectuals will have greater opportunities to put their knowledge and initiatives into practice and make practical contributions to the city’s sustainable development.
