As digital transformation gains momentum across various sectors, Trade Unions at all levels in Dong Nai have stepped up efforts to modernize their operations, expand the use of information technology to improve workers' well-being, and diversify ways of communicating benefits and policies to union members and workers.

Digital platforms are not only helping narrow the gap between Trade Unions and workers but also bringing information, policies and welfare programs closer to workers, enabling them to access and benefit from practical services more easily.

Timely access to information

With more than 1.4 million workers employed in industrial parks across Dong Nai, demand for information, policies and support services is becoming increasingly diverse. Meanwhile, workers often work shifts and have limited time to rest, making it difficult for many to participate fully in activities organized by Trade Unions. Against this backdrop, applying digital technology to trade union activities is considered an important solution to modernizing communication and improving the effectiveness of support for union members.

The approach has been widely adopted at Far Eastern New Apparel (Viet Nam) Limited in Bac Dong Phu Industrial Park, Dong Phu Ward. With around 3,500 workers, bringing all workers together to communicate information about welfare benefits is not easy. In response, the grassroots Trade Union has stepped up its digital transformation efforts, proactively providing union members and workers with official information on a daily basis. The information focuses on Party guidelines, State policies and laws, Trade Union activities, local developments, and welfare programs for union members.

Nguyen Thi Mai Chi, Chairwoman of the company's grassroots Trade Union, said that in response to the growing demand for information among union members, the union had set up a Facebook page to provide regular daily updates. The page has attracted considerable attention, with a large number of workers following it and actively interacting with its content. In particular, during holidays and Tet, the grassroots Trade Union only needs to post information on the number of gifts available and the gift distribution schedule on Facebook for workers to quickly access the information. Workers' positive interactions and feedback help information spread promptly, reduce communication gaps and strengthen ties with the grassroots Trade Union.

Digital communication channels are not limited to providing one-way information. They also give workers opportunities to share their concerns, aspirations and recommendations regarding policies and working conditions. Through online platforms, information on benefits, policies, labor laws, social insurance, health insurance, and counseling and support services can be delivered more quickly and effectively.

Tran Van Thuan, a worker at Pou Sung Vietnam Co., Ltd. in An Vien Commune, said his shift-based work leaves him little time to learn about regulations and policies on social insurance and personal income tax. “After work, I can visit the grassroots Trade Union’s Facebook page to find information about benefits and policies relevant to me. Thanks to this approach, I can easily keep up with new regulations, better understand my entitlements and proactively complete the necessary procedures. It is a practical way to save workers time while still giving us access to useful information,” Thuan said.

At grassroots Trade Unions, online information groups, social media and digital platforms are proving effective in supporting union activities. Instead of waiting for collective meetings, trade union officials can proactively deliver information to workers in groups and tailor it to specific topics. Information on wages, bonuses, working and rest hours, occupational safety and hygiene, and insurance benefits can also be communicated more conveniently, giving workers easier access to useful information that meets their practical needs.

Expanding the welfare network

Alongside diversifying support activities, digital transformation is creating new ways to bring welfare benefits closer to union members and workers. Services related to shopping, healthcare, education, transportation and family life can be integrated and regularly updated, helping workers save time and money while improving their quality of life. This approach is well-suited to Dong Nai, which has a large workforce spread across numerous industrial parks, with workers operating on different schedules.

To modernize its operations, the trade union aims, in the coming period, to enhance digital skills among trade union officials, step up communication efforts to encourage workers to proactively use technology platforms, and gradually develop the habit of accessing information and services in the digital environment.

After work, workers no longer necessarily have to meet trade union officials in person or search for information about their entitlements through multiple channels. Instead, they can access welfare programs, preferential policies and trade union activities through their smartphones. With just a few steps, union members can update information, learn about their benefits, register for programs and access welfare services posted daily by trade unions on digital platforms.

One example is the annual online Trade Union Tet Market, which allows union members and workers to conveniently shop for Tet through a digital platform. During the 2026 Lunar New Year, 9,300 union members in Dong Nai received shopping vouchers worth VND 500,000 each to use at the online Trade Union Tet Market – Spring 2026. The program provided workers with a practical way to shop using electronic vouchers, offering fast, convenient services, a wide range of products, and preferential prices.

According to Bui Thi Bich Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Dong Nai City Labor Federation, digital transformation is not simply about moving traditional activities online. More importantly, it involves changing the way services are delivered, placing the needs and experiences of union members and workers at the center. When information is seamlessly connected, and data is regularly updated and effectively utilized, trade unions will be better positioned to implement support programs for the right beneficiaries and in line with their actual needs.
