Proactively preparing vehicles, improving service quality
At 5:45 a.m. on September 15, at the bus stop opposite Dong Nai Technology University in Trang Dai Ward, many students were waiting for buses to take them to school. Some were dropped off at the bus stop by their parents, while others rode electric bicycles there on their own, parked them, and boarded the bus, managing their journeys to school independently. For students who live far from school, buses have become a familiar means of transportation, easing the burden on families of taking them to and from school while helping ensure road safety.
Dong Van Hau, a student living in Trang Dai Ward, said he is a 10th grader at Nam Ha High School in Tran Bien Ward. Since his new school is more than 10 kilometers from home, he has chosen to take the bus to school every day. “Taking the bus is safe and convenient. I do not have to worry about heavy traffic, while my parents no longer have to spend time taking me to and from school,” Hau said.
Also living in Trang Dai Ward, Tran Thi Hien, a 12th grader at Bui Thi Xuan Primary, Secondary and High School, has been taking the bus to school for more than two years. According to Hien, traveling by bus is much safer than riding a motorbike or electric vehicle. She also praised the drivers and bus attendants for being friendly and courteous.
Ngo Ngoc Thuy Anh, who is in charge of Bus Route No. 1 operated by Tri Minh Phat Company Limited, said the route runs from Dong Nai Technology University to Vung Tau Intersection Bus Station. The route passes several schools, including Nam Ha High School, Ngo Quyen High School, Tran Hung Dao Secondary School, Trang Dai Secondary School and Bui Thi Xuan Primary, Secondary and High School. As a result, demand from pupils and students is particularly high. Ahead of the new school year, all vehicles operating on Bus Route No. 1 underwent comprehensive inspections and maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation.
The route currently operates 80 trips a day. Passenger numbers, particularly among pupils and students, have risen slightly at the start of the new school year. The route is expected to serve about 900 passenger trips a day, with pupils and students accounting for more than 70%, up about 5% from the 2025–2026 school year. “Starting October 1, Bus Route No. 1 will increase its frequency from 80 to 86 trips a day. The first morning departure will be moved forward from 5:30 a.m. to 5:15 a.m., while the final departure of the day will be adjusted from 4:05 p.m. to 4:10 p.m. Adjusting the timetable and improving service quality will make it safer and more convenient for pupils and students to travel to school, while helping the company optimize operations and increase revenue,” Thuy Anh said.
Meeting peak-hour travel demand
Along with Bus Route No. 1, preparations are also underway for Bus Route No. 2, which runs between Bien Hoa Bus Station and Nhon Trach Bus Station, with vehicles and personnel being readied to meet the travel needs of pupils and students in the new school year. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, transport operations manager at Hoang Ha D.L Tourist Services Co., Ltd, said Bus Route No. 2 is about 42 kilometers long and passes several schools, including Dong Nai University, Dong Nai College of Engineering and Technology, Tran Hung Dao Secondary School and Ngo Quyen High School. The route currently operates 82 trips a day and serves nearly 2,900 passenger trips daily, including about 740 trips by pupils and students.
To ensure vehicles are ready for service, Hoang Ha D.L. Tourism and Services Co., Ltd. conducts maintenance in accordance with technical specifications and procedures. In addition to technical safety, the company places emphasis on service quality. Regular training sessions are held to strengthen employees’ sense of responsibility and promote proper communication and friendly behavior toward passengers. These efforts aim to build a civilized, safe and friendly image for bus services, particularly for pupils and students.
“The monthly pass discount program continues. Pupils and students receive a 50% discount on monthly passes, while regular passengers receive a 25% discount. This policy helps residents, pupils, and students choose public transport more proactively and reduce their travel costs,” Tuan said.
Phan Hong Quang, Deputy Director in charge of the Public Passenger Transport Management and Operation Center under the Dong Nai Department of Construction, said the center had developed a plan early to meet pupils’ and students’ travel needs for the new school year and assigned specific tasks to relevant units.
For bus transport operators, the center requires strict compliance with traffic safety procedures before vehicles are handed over to drivers. Operators must maintain and repair vehicles, ensure technical safety and cleanliness, and provide sufficient vehicles and quality services. Transport operators are also required to strengthen the operation of traffic safety monitoring teams, regularly monitor vehicle tracking systems and cameras, and promptly correct drivers’ violations. Fare information must be properly posted and tickets sold at the declared fares, with operators strictly prohibited from arbitrarily raising prices.
For bus station management and operating units, the center has requested stronger inspections of vehicles, drivers and attendants before buses depart. Inspections focus on vehicle registration documents, inspection certificates, professional training certificates and other relevant conditions.
The center has assigned personnel to monitor and inspect bus routes, focusing on high-passenger-volume locations, to coordinate vehicle deployment and respond to any situations that arise. Violations involving the failure to post required information and fares, charging passengers above the listed fare, improperly transferring passengers, or inappropriate service conduct will be promptly detected and addressed. The center will also maintain a hotline to receive and address passenger feedback, while stepping up monitoring through vehicle-tracking devices and cameras, and advising relevant authorities to take strict action against violations such as speeding and failure to transmit vehicle-tracking data.
With proactive efforts by the authorities and transport operators, bus services in Dong Nai are expected to continue meeting the travel needs of residents, pupils and students. This is a practical solution that helps promote the habit of using public transport, ease traffic pressure and contribute to the development of a green, civilized and modern urban area.
