The mushrooming of high-rise apartment blocks over recent years is fast changing the silhouette of Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province. The province becomes the fastest-growing region in the country. Most of the new buildings are multi-stories with larger living areas for each apartment. Residents moved to new apartment blocks. Futhermore, a lot of high-rise apartment buildings are under construction along highways and all over Bien Hoa city. In addition to luxury aparment buildings, Bien Hoa city has built multistoried housing for low and medium income groups.
New residential areas have been built not only in Bien Hoa city but also in Trang Bom, Long Khanh, Long Thanh, Nhon Trach distrists.. The provincial housing and real estate offer buyers the widest choice of luxury villas and apartments …. in city location and popular residential areas. Recently, Dong Nai province has about 150 urban and residential area development projects with a total area of 1,900 hectares. Of which, 12 residential areas for workers have been being built in such districts as Long Thanh , Nhon Trach, Trang Bom and Bien Hoa city with a total area of 67.8 hectares amounting to approximately VND 637 billion. These new residential areas can provide accommodations to 98,000 workers. Other projects are also deploying in many localities across the province with a total invested capital of thousands of billions of dongs. These renewal projects meet increasing housing demand of the local population. This illustrates also play a significant role in modernization and shaping a society becoming more and more civilized.
Dong Nai faces increasing demands for housing in both the rural and the urban areas because income and living standard of the local population has been improved considerably in the past time. The number of solid houses in the province is estimated to increase to over 29% in 2005 from 17% in 2001. The number of semi-solid houses is expected to decrease from 63.15% in 2001 to 56% in 2005. The number of simple bamboo houses also fell from 19.78% in 2001 to nearly 15% in 2005.
Residential area development projects are worth an estimated VND19,500 billion in period 2001-2005. An average living space in the province is 12.27 square meters per person in 2005 compared with 9.34 square meters per person in 2001. The figure presents 2.27 square meters higher than target for 2001-2005.
Over the past years, Dong Nai has granted 2300 gratitude houses worth VND 15-20 million each with a total area of 66,500 square meters. The province has so far offered new houses for all policy beneficiaries’ families. Besides, the province has built 2500 new houses for the poor with a total area of 60,000 square meters.
In the other hand, Dong Nai is now striving to reach target 2010 of building new housing for 17,100 households according to the resettlement programs through deploying 41 projects with total built area of 395 hectares. Especially, the provine has carried out 18 projects covering 157.93 hectare in period 2001-2004. These renewal projects involved resettlement of some 6,375 households.
