(ĐN)- The Dong Nai Health Department on Tuesday held a meeting to map out the details of HIV/AIDS prevention and control work and the program of care and treatment for children infected with HIV for 2010.

According to the Provincial Centre for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, by the end of 2009, the number of HIV infected people and AIDS cases in Dong Nai stood at 4,936, of whom, 57.31 per cent were young people, aged between 20 and 29. Especially, males made up 84 per cent of reported HIV/AIDS cases in Dong Nai. Bien Hoa city has now the highest number of HIV/AID cases in the province with 2,169 people, followed by Long Thanh district and Long Khanh town.
During the past year, the Centre carried out many activities to support HIV/AIDS suffers, including counseling and testing for HIV, and delivering medical care. A total of 3,504 people in Dong Nai were given access to HIV testing and counseling services in 2009.
In 2010, the centre sets the target to reduce the number of HIV/AIDS infected people among communities to 0.3 per cent.
