According to a report from the Representative Board of the Association, elders throughout the province have over the past year actively participated in building the Party, consolidating local administrations, promoting production activities, reducing poverty, maintaining political stability and social order.

(ĐN)- Dong Nai’s Elderly Association recently held a meeting to review its work in 2006. According to a report from the Representative Board of the Association, elders throughout the province have over the past year actively participated in building the Party, consolidating local administrations, promoting production activities, reducing poverty, maintaining political stability and social order. The Association admitted 2,764 new members in 2006, bringing the total Association membership to 122,00. For the reviewed period, members of the association raised over VND2 billion to help each other to earn money in order to reduce the number of poor households among the association’s members. At the same time, the association contributed more than VND 12.5 billion to the province’s study encouragement fund. 4,947 “fondness of learning” families were honoured by the local Government last year and 85 per cent of households among the association’s members has been so far recognized as cultural families. Over the past year, Dong Nai’s Elderly Association and sub-associations across the province together with the local authorities spent thousands of billions of dongs to grant free medical insurance cards for old people, congratulate and give gifts to elderly people on their longevity as well as to grant capital for families of poor old people ….
