(ĐN) – During the past years, district authority of Thong Nhat has launched the Patriotic Emulation Campaign throughout the district that encouraged local people participation. Efforts made by Thong Nhat people and authority contributed effectively to economic growth for reducing poverty. The district achieved an improved overall economic performance in the level and growth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita that was critical for higher living standards of local people. This resulted in an increase in real GDP per capita of VND 5.242 million in 2005 compared with VND 4.867 million in 2004. Overall, the strong economy has clearly helped reducing poverty and decreasing the rate of low – income families from 6.37% to 3.5%. At present, the district made Strategic Master Plan towards 2010 about economic and social development as well as safety, defense and security.
