More than 80% of schools across Dong Nai City have so far organized health checkups for students as part of student healthcare activities at the start of the 2026–2027 school year, Director of the Dong Nai Department of Health Do Thi Nguyen said on September 26. The remaining schools are continuing to coordinate with qualified medical facilities to conduct the checkups, aiming to complete the work in October.

The Department of Health’s leader emphasized that health checkups at the beginning of the school year are an important part of school health services. Students receive basic health assessments, including measurements of height, weight and blood pressure, vision screening, mental health assessments and age-appropriate specialist examinations. Students showing signs of health problems are referred to medical facilities for further examination, consultation and treatment when necessary.

The health sector has asked educational institutions across the city to continue working closely with medical facilities to organize health checkups and establish and manage health records for students. Schools have also been asked to closely monitor students at risk of school-related health conditions such as refractive errors, spinal curvature, overweight, obesity and malnutrition.

In addition to regular health checkups, schools should step up communication and guidance on personal hygiene, proper nutrition, physical activity and the prevention and control of infectious diseases. These efforts will contribute to building a safe and healthy school environment, helping students maintain good health for learning and comprehensive development.

In the 2026–2027 school year, Dong Nai City has 707 educational institutions at the preschool, general education, and continuing education–vocational education levels, serving more than 1 million children, students and learners.

Health checkups for students at the beginning of the school year are an important part of the city's efforts to provide free health checkups for all residents. Dong Nai City aims to ensure that by the end of 2026, every resident receives at least one screening or regular health checkup and has an electronic health record established and regularly updated to monitor their health throughout their lifetime.
