Strengthening capacity of farmers’ association officials

Against a backdrop of agricultural production becoming increasingly linked to digital transformation, production linkages and sustainable development requirements, grassroots Farmers’ Association officials play an important role in bringing guidelines and policies closer to members.

The city Farmers’ Association organizes a training course for grassroots agricultural officials.

In response to practical needs, the Dong Nai City Farmers’ Association has organized a series of information and training courses covering diverse, practical topics, helping to improve the knowledge and skills of its officials. The initiative provides a foundation for officials to accompany farmers in developing their livelihoods and local economies.

Bringing knowledge to farmers’ association officials

On August 28, the hall of the Tri An Ward Political Center was bustling with more than 100 grassroots officials and farmer members from the wards and communes of Tri An, Tan An and Phu Ly attending a training course organized by the city Farmers’ Association.

More than a training session, the event provided an opportunity for grassroots officials to meet and share experiences in mobilizing and bringing together members, and in implementing farmers’ movements in their localities. Experiences from agricultural production, difficulties in communicating policies and efforts to help members access funding were openly shared, making the training more practical and closely connected to grassroots realities.

At training courses held in various localities, officials and farmer members have been updated on important issues related to building a strong Farmers’ Association organization and implementing the Resolution of the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association for the 2026–2031 term. Participants have also enhanced their understanding of digital transformation, support for farmers starting businesses, innovation and the application of new solutions in production and business.

Through the training, grassroots officials gain additional knowledge and skills to better perform their tasks of communicating policies, mobilizing and bringing together members. They also serve as a bridge, bringing agricultural support policies and effective production models closer to local farmers.

Phan Thi Hai Ly, Head of the Farmers’ Association chapter in Vinh Tan 1 Hamlet, Tan An Commune, said the opportunity to attend annual training courses is highly valuable. Through each course, grassroots officials receive updates on new regulations and effective practices that they can apply to their work in their local communities.

“When farmers are equipped with knowledge and receive appropriate support resources, it becomes easier for them to change their production methods and improve economic efficiency,” Ly said.

Mai Tien Huu, Head of the Farmers’ Association chapter in Vinh An 2 Neighborhood, Tri An Ward, said the training courses provide officials with an opportunity to gain a firmer grasp of new regulations and guidelines, enabling them to pass the information on to local members.

“The training content is closely aligned with the actual work of grassroots officials. I hope more training courses with new topics will be organized in the coming period, particularly on digital transformation, production development and support for farmers starting businesses,” Huu said.

Bridging the gap between policies and farmers

Building on the knowledge gained from the courses, local Farmers’ Association officials will continue organizing meetings, information sessions and guidance to help members apply what they have learned to production and daily life.

On Van Thanh, Chairman of the Phu Ly Commune Farmers’ Association, said grassroots Farmers’ Association officials and members are enthusiastic about participating in the training courses because they provide opportunities to access new information and directly discuss issues that remain unclear.

According to Thanh, many members still face difficulties in production, accessing support policies and applying new technologies because they lack information. Therefore, through outreach and training courses, grassroots officials will continue disseminating essential information on agricultural support policies, digital transformation skills and regulations related to the association’s activities, helping members gradually improve their awareness and become more proactive in production and business.

Nguyen Thi Thu Dinh, Deputy Head of the Farmers’ Affairs Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Nai City, said that professional training and capacity building have always been identified by the city Farmers’ Association as important tasks to improve the quality of its officials. In recent times, numerous training courses have been organized on practical topics, including the Farmers’ Support Fund, implementation of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association Charter, the Resolution of the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association for the 2026–2031 term, entrusted fund management through the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, and digital transformation.

According to Dinh, a notable feature of recent training efforts has been the gradual shift from content-based training using pre-designed materials to training tailored to specific duties and practical issues at the grassroots level. The courses not only provide professional knowledge but also focus on skills in communicating policies and mobilizing members, managing funds, establishing cooperative groups and cooperatives, supporting production linkages and applying digital technologies.

In the coming period, the city Farmers’ Association will continue to renew its training programs toward being “practical, grassroots-oriented, targeted and application-focused.” Training content will place greater emphasis on the skills needed by grassroots officials, including communicating policies and mobilizing members, managing funds, developing professional branches and groups, and supporting farmers in establishing production linkages.

Since early July 2026, the City Farmers’ Association has organized more than 30 training courses for nearly 1,500 officials and farmer members, covering a wide range of topics related to professional knowledge and skills, circular economy development in agricultural production, and digital transformation.
