Priority given to completing west wing and central area of Long Thanh Airport terminal

According to Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the investor of Component Project 3, which covers essential airport facilities under the Long Thanh International Airport project, ACV is prioritizing the completion of the west wing and central area of the passenger terminal under Package 5.10 to ensure the necessary conditions for operations and commercial use.

Meanwhile, finishing work and repairs of defects in other areas will be carried out according to plans appropriate to the project's operational requirements.

Package 5.10 is a large-scale package with a complex scope of work, covering construction, finishing and the integrated installation of numerous technical systems and equipment serving terminal operations. By the end of the first week of September 2026, the value of work completed under Package 5.10 had reached more than 77% of the contract value. Construction and finishing work accounted for nearly 83%, electrical systems about 94%, and terminal equipment more than 70%.

According to ACV, at the current stage, work under Package 5.10 is heavily focused on architectural finishing, electromechanical systems, fire prevention and firefighting systems, information and communication technology (ICT), and the installation of technological equipment. As these systems are closely interconnected, site handover, construction organization and system integration must be coordinated by area. ACV has therefore asked the Vietur consortium to mobilize additional personnel, strengthen coordination among work items, organize construction by area, and apply progress-management tools and Building Information Modeling (BIM), a process for creating and managing digital information models for construction projects.

According to the plan, Phase 1 of Long Thanh Airport is scheduled to begin commercial operations by the end of 2026. During the current construction phase, ACV has identified overall coordination, progress control and resource mobilization as key priorities. As a large-scale aviation project involving multiple packages being implemented simultaneously and interdependent in terms of site conditions, structures, technical systems and equipment, completion of an individual work item depends not only on the construction volume under that package but also on ensuring connectivity with related components.

Accordingly, ACV has instructed the Long Thanh Airport Project Management Board to focus on implementing a set of measures, including strengthening on-site resources; managing progress by individual area and work milestone; enhancing coordination among packages; proactively controlling materials and equipment; and prioritizing essential facilities for airport operations.
