Industry and trade sector urged to make four clear shifts to drive new growth momentum

On September 16, Deputy Secretary of Dong Nai City Party Committee (CPC) Vo Tan Duc chaired a working session with the Department of Industry and Trade (DoIT) to review task implementation, identify existing bottlenecks and shortcomings, and discuss solutions and plans for the coming period to meet the city’s development requirements. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Party Committee of the City People’s Committee and relevant departments and agencies.

According to the DoIT, industry and trade activities in the city continued to grow during the first eight months of 2026. The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rose 12.63% year on year. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue were estimated at more than VND302.9 trillion, up 17.2%, while export turnover was estimated to increase 6.1% year on year. Commercial electricity consumption reached more than 14.2 billion kWh, up 5.92% from the same period in 2025.

At the working session, leaders of the DoIT also pointed out a number of bottlenecks, shortcomings and their causes in areas, including import and export; new production capacity, infrastructure and logistics; e-commerce; and investment and development of industrial clusters. They also set targets and proposed key tasks and solutions for the final months of 2026.

Speaking at the session, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Vo Tan Duc asked the DoIT to develop a specific action plan focusing on five key areas of work. First, it should develop an industrial and trade growth scenario for the remainder of 2026 and set development orientations for 2027, identifying specific industries, businesses and projects that can generate growth.

Second, the department should compile a list of industrial, commercial and energy projects facing difficulties and obstacles, with each project requiring clear identification of the issues involved, the agency responsible for resolving them and the deadline for resolution.

Third, it should develop a list of industrial, logistics, commercial and energy projects with the potential to drive growth in the 2027-2030 period, in order to proactively call for investment. Fourth, it should formulate a logistics development plan linked to Long Thanh International Airport and Phuoc An Port.

Fifth, the department should review overall electricity demand and supply capacity for industrial parks, urban areas, logistics facilities and key projects, and identify power infrastructure projects that should be prioritized for investment.

Deputy Secretary Vo Tan Duc asked the DoIT to bring about four clear shifts in the coming period: Industry must move from extensive growth toward a model driven by technology, productivity and value added. Trade and logistics must become a new growth driver by capitalizing on the distinctive advantages of Long Thanh and Phuoc An. Energy infrastructure must be developed ahead of demand to ensure adequate power for production, business activities and new development areas. The department must shift decisively from administrative management toward proactively working alongside businesses, resolving difficulties and creating a favorable environment for their development.

Deputy Secretary Vo Tan Duc stressed that the DoIT should not only oversee industry and trade, but also advise the city on developing new industrial products, new markets and new value chains, thereby creating new growth momentum.
