Dong Nai’s first household waste-derived fertilizer production system inaugurated

On September 16, Sonadezi Services Joint Stock Company (SDV) inaugurated an organic-mineral-NPK fertilizer production system at the Quang Trung Waste Treatment Complex, marking a new step in recycling and resource recovery from household waste. The system is the first of its kind in Dong Nai City to produce fertilizer from household waste-derived materials.

The organic-mineral-NPK fertilizer production system has a capacity of 72 tonnes per day and uses compost produced from household waste treatment as its main raw material. This is one of the solutions aimed at making use of available raw materials, reduce the volume of waste requiring final disposal and create additional value from waste.

According to SDV, the Quang Trung Waste Treatment Complex had previously commissioned a waste recycling facility that produces compost, with a current capacity of 1,500 tonnes per day. Investment in the organic fertilizer production system, which uses compost as its raw material, will help establish a closed-loop recycling process as part of the development of a circular economy.

Before the facility began operations, the company’s fertilizer products had been approved for circulation in Viet Nam by the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection. The facility had also been granted a certificate of eligibility for fertilizer production by the Department of Agriculture and Environment. The products are available in loose and pellet forms.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, SDV General Director Tran Anh Dung said the plant’s operation marked another step in shifting waste treatment toward “recycling, reducing landfill disposal and recovering resources.” In the coming period, the company will focus on ensuring stable and safe operation of the plant, maintaining product quality and gradually bringing the facility to its designed capacity.

The Quang Trung Waste Treatment Complex currently receives and treats the largest volume of household waste in Dong Nai City, with a capacity of about 1,500 tonnes per day. Alongside waste treatment and recycling facilities, the company is advancing a waste-to-energy project that is scheduled to break ground in the first quarter of 2027. The project aims to improve the recovery of resources and energy from waste while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

At the end of 2025, the complex also inaugurated and put into use three facilities: a refuse-derived fuel (RDF) pellet production system, a plastic recycling system and an anaerobic waste treatment (biogas) system. All three facilities use modern technologies to optimize waste treatment efficiency, produce environmentally friendly recycled products and provide raw materials for various manufacturing industries.
