Dong Nai proposes 3,500 social housing units for rent

The Department of Construction has submitted a report to the Ministry of Construction proposing adjustments to the targets for social housing and rental housing development in Dong Nai City for the 2026–2030 period.

According to the Department of Construction, the review and proposed adjustments were carried out pursuant to Official Letter No. 13856/BXD-QLN dated August 28, 2026, issued by the Ministry of Construction regarding a review of targets for social housing and rental housing development. The ministry asked localities to review their needs and development targets for social housing and rental housing and propose adjustments aimed at increasing rental housing while reducing social housing units for sale.

Following the review, the Department of Construction proposed adjustments to the social housing and rental housing development targets assigned to the city by the Government for 2026–2030.

Under the proposed adjustment, the total social housing target for Dong Nai City for the 2026-2030 period would remain at more than 60,000 units, including more than 56,500 social housing units for sale and 3,500 rental units. Compared with the targets set out in the draft Government resolution on assigning social housing and rental housing development targets to localities for 2026-2030, which is currently being finalized, the proposal would reduce the number of social housing units for sale by 500 and increase the number of rental units by 500.

The Department of Construction's report also revises the annual social housing development targets through 2030. The city is expected to complete 2,000 units in 2026, 3,000 in 2027, 5,000 in 2028, 10,000 in 2029 and more than 40,000 in 2030.

According to the department, the proposed adjustments are based on a review of demand for social and rental housing in the city and the Government's directives.

Dong Nai City has a high demand for social housing, housing for workers and housing for people whose land is acquired for project implementation. In recent times, the city has issued various directives and adjusted housing development targets to meet actual demand, particularly among workers, low-income earners and people facing housing difficulties.

The adjustment of the 2026–2030 targets will better align with actual demand while increasing the supply of rental housing and providing residents in the area with more housing options.
