(ĐN)- Vertical Shaft Brick kiln (VSKB) technology is an energy efficient, environment friendly and economically viable means to produce quality bricks. The Dong Nai province Science and Technology Application Center is providing consulting services to facilitate technology transfer to businesses in the province that make bricks using the old-style methods. The objective is to modernize production methods in order to use less fuel, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money. Mr. Tran Minh Trung, who lives in Xuan Hoa commune, Xuan Loc district, has become the first person in Dong Nai to adopt VSBK technology for brick production. Trung invested around VND 5 billion in building a vertical shaft brick kiln in early 2009. He said that about 440 tones of coal are saved annually and the production cost is cut down while annual CO2 emissions are reduced to nearly 3 million tones through use of VSKB technology. Trung now earns around VND 100 million in profits per month. He expects to make back his investment within four years.
