Military owned telecom service provider Viettel is preparing to make its first jump into the Singaporean and Thai markets, said the corporation’s officials on July 5.

According to the officials, Viettel will focus at first on providing express mail and postal services in these countries as preparatory steps to expanding business to other regional countries.

In anticipation of this, the company has been accelerating its discussions on joint-ventures with three foreign partners.

Viettel at present is the provider of the biggest number of telecom services in Viet Nam. In late 2006, the corporation entered Cambodia with its Voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) service, then expanded to mobile phone and Internet service, becoming the first Vietnamese telecom company to invest abroad.
