The Long Thanh Bridge component of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway Expansion Project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.

The completion of site clearance provides favorable conditions for the projects to accelerate construction, complete the works and put them into operation.

The final households agree to hand over land

In late September 2026, leaders of Long Thanh Ward met with the final 10 households that had yet to hand over land for the project to expand the Ho Chi Minh City–Long Thanh section of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway running through the area. These households had requested consideration of resettlement arrangements and discrepancies between their actual land area and the area stated on land-use rights certificates, and had therefore not agreed to hand over their land for the project.

Le Hoang Son, Chairman of the Long Thanh Ward People's Committee, said that with persistence, a willingness to listen and a commitment to placing the legitimate interests of residents first, the local team in charge of mobilizing residents for site handover clearly explained regulations and policies on compensation, support and resettlement, while addressing the questions raised by each household.

At the end of the meeting, after receiving thorough explanations and mobilization, the households agreed to sign documents confirming receipt of compensation and support payments and were committed to handing over their land. This was also the final area of land for the project section through Dong Nai City to be handed over, marking the completion of site clearance for the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway Expansion Project section passing through the city.

According to the city's Land Fund Development Center, for the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway Project, site clearance for approximately 7 hectares serving additional facilities, including intelligent transportation system (ITS) infrastructure, a toll station at the Tan Hiep interchange and vehicle weight-control facilities, has reached nearly 90% in terms of land-origin verification. Compensation plans have been approved for 25% of the area, while 22% of the site has been handed over.

In Chon Thanh Ward, on September 30, the local authorities held a ceremony to hand over the site for the Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh Expressway Project section running through the area to the relevant agencies and units. According to the Chon Thanh Ward People's Committee, thanks to coordinated implementation, particularly communication and mobilization efforts, households within the project area have shown a high level of consensus in handing over land for construction. As a result, by the end of September 2026, the locality had completed the handover of the entire project site within its area for construction.

According to the city's Land Fund Development Center, for the Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh Expressway Project and the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway Expansion Project sections running through Dong Nai City, the entire construction site has now been handed over.

Accelerating project completion

The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway Expansion Project is nearly 22 kilometers long. The project plays a particularly important role in connecting Long Thanh International Airport with Ho Chi Minh City, as the airport is expected to begin commercial operations by the end of 2026.

According to Pham Thanh Hai, Director of the Southern Expressway Project Management Unit (SEPMU), contractors have recently mobilized more than 1,500 workers and hundreds of machines, organizing more than 70 construction teams across the project. Overall construction progress on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway Expansion Project has exceeded 70%.

Under the plan, the road and viaduct expansion works are expected to be completed by mid-October 2026. Contractors will then switch construction lanes, closing the existing lanes for repair and upgrading, to meet the target of opening the project to traffic by the end of 2026. The Long Thanh Bridge, the largest bridge on the route at approximately 2.3 kilometers long, is expected to be structurally connected by the end of 2026 and completed in the first quarter of 2027.

To accelerate the project, SEPMU has continuously conducted site inspections, held progress review meetings and required contractors to increase manpower, equipment and materials, while implementing around-the-clock construction in “three shifts, four teams.”

Regarding the construction of approximately 6.6 kilometers of the Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh Expressway section running through Dong Nai City, construction output has so far reached more than 35% of the contract value. Previously, during an inspection of the project's construction progress in mid-August 2026, Nguyen Van Ut, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People's Committee, asked the contractor to continue making efforts and mobilize additional resources to implement the project.

At the meeting, the contractor's representative said that once the entire site is handed over, the contractor would mobilize additional manpower and equipment to accelerate construction, with the goal of completing the project before December 31, 2026.

With the entire project site now handed over, the contractor has favorable conditions to accelerate construction and complete the project on schedule.
