Since 2018, the Secretariat of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee has widely promoted the “Three-Good Student” movement among high school students, based on three criteria: good academic performance, good ethics and good physical fitness. Alongside recognizing outstanding students, it encourages students to take the initiative in striving for excellence, improving themselves and developing in all areas.
Recognizing the significant value of the "Three-Good Student" movement, Tran Le Gia Bao, a student in Class 12A3 at Tran Bien High School in Tam Hiep Ward, began researching its criteria and setting personal goals as soon as he learned about the initiative.
Taking the initiative in self-improvement
Gia Bao said, "I took the initiative to study each criterion – good academic performance, good ethics, and good physical fitness – and identified specific actions needed to meet them. To fulfill the good academic performance criterion, I developed a study method suited to my abilities."

| Outside school hours, Tran Le Gia Bao (center), a student in Class 12A3 at Tran Bien High School in Tam Hiep Ward, engages in self-study and independent research to develop innovative products. |
Specifically, Gia Bao strives to maintain a daily routine of studying and completing assignments. After finishing his classwork and homework, he sets aside additional time to study upcoming lessons in advance and tackle advanced exercises to deepen his understanding. Beyond fulfilling his academic responsibilities, he actively seeks new knowledge through discussions with teachers and friends. Participating in school- and city-level competitions also helps him broaden his knowledge and sharpen his skills.
To meet the good ethics criterion, Gia Bao actively participates in activities and movements organized by his school's Youth Union, including the "Exam Season Support" and "Red Phoenix Flower" campaigns, as well as online competitions on legal knowledge and traffic safety. Through these collective activities, he has more opportunities to develop a sense of responsibility, initiative, and commitment to contributing to the community.
Regarding the good physical fitness criterion, Gia Bao maintains his participation in his favorite sports activities alongside Physical Education classes at school. His sports activities include playing soccer with friends and competing in school-organized sports tournaments. Regular physical activity not only helps him meet the movement's criteria but also provides opportunities to improve his health, relieve stress, and maintain a stable mindset conducive to better academic performance.
Nguyen Tran Phuong Ha, Deputy Secretary of the Dong Nai City Youth Union, Chairwoman of the City Student Association, and Chairwoman of the City Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization Council, said, "Since the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year, the City Youth Union has directed Youth Union organizations at all levels to intensify communication efforts to help students better understand the purpose, significance, and criteria of the 'Three-Good Student' movement. We have also encouraged students to register early and provided specific guidance on the steps they need to take to proactively fulfill the criteria. As a result, registration for the movement among students has increased, with many students taking the initiative to improve themselves from the beginning of the school year. Notably, they are focusing not only on academic performance but also on moral development, participation in extracurricular activities, and physical fitness."
Adapting to the new context
According to Nguyen Tran Phuong Ha, Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union, modern society requires students not only to excel academically but also to develop adaptability, practical skills, resilience, creativity, a sense of responsibility toward the community, and the ability to master technology. Therefore, the City Youth Union has determined that the “Three-Good Student” movement must be implemented in a more substantive and student-centered manner.
In the coming period, the movement will no longer be confined to registration and selection at the end of the school year but will instead become a continuous process of self-improvement and development. One of the new measures planned by the City Youth Union is the gradual digitalization of all stages of the movement, from communication, registration, and progress monitoring to achievement updates, selection, and recognition.
This approach will enable Youth Union organizations to gain a more comprehensive understanding of each student's academic progress, self-improvement efforts, participation in activities, achievements, innovative products, and contributions. It will also facilitate the proactive identification of exemplary students and make the selection and recognition process more comprehensive.
In addition, the City Youth Union will strengthen coordination with high schools to provide more opportunities and environments for students to improve themselves. The movement will also be integrated with activities such as the "Red Seed Journey," academic and sci-tech research, digital transformation, foreign language learning, volunteer activities, cultural and sports programs, and practical experiential activities. Through these activities, Youth Union organizations at all levels will identify students with potential, ambition, and a strong sense of responsibility and provide continued guidance and support to help them become outstanding Youth Union members and promising "red seeds" for future admission to the Party.
The "Three-Good Student" movement is not intended solely for students who have already achieved outstanding results but for all students. Every student can begin with small tasks, set appropriate goals, and gradually strive to improve themselves.

Hoang Ngoc Bao Han, a student in Class 12E at Binh Long High School for the Gifted in Binh Long Ward who has earned the "Three-Good Student" title, said, "The movement helps students understand that the title is not merely an honor but the result of a process of comprehensive development. In addition to guiding students in setting goals for each criterion, schools need to organize more activities that provide opportunities for students to participate, improve themselves, demonstrate their strengths, and further develop their abilities. At the same time, it is important to promote the role of core students who have already earned the 'Three-Good Student' title in expanding the movement and sharing their experiences in studying and self-improvement. This will provide further motivation for successive generations of students to register and strive to meet the criteria. Only then can the 'Three-Good Student' movement gain widespread participation and become a self-improvement movement embraced by the majority of students."
