In 2026, the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation set a target for Dong Nai to collect 51,000 units of blood by the end of November.

With only 50 days remaining before the deadline, more than 13,500 units of blood still need to be collected, requiring the red cross societies at all levels to intensify efforts to meet the target.

Nearly 37,500 units of blood collected

Since the beginning of 2026, Dong Nai City has organized between 14 and 16 mobile voluntary blood donation drives each month, equivalent to an average of one drive every two days.

In addition, a fixed blood donation site at Dong Nai General Hospital has been receiving voluntary donors for more than a year. Initially operating three days a week, the site now opens five days a week, from Monday to Friday, and two Sundays each month. As of September 2026, after one year of operation, it had collected approximately 6,000 units of blood.

As a result, Dong Nai collected nearly 37,500 units of voluntarily donated blood over the 10-month period from December 2025 to September 2026.

According to Ha Trung Kien, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Red Cross Society, these positive results reflect the active participation and support of local residents, along with the efforts of the red cross societies at all levels, local authorities, agencies, and units. Voluntary blood donation drives have consistently received an enthusiastic response from the public. On August 25, a total of 289 people, including officers and employees of Thuan My Ito Dong Nai Hospital Joint Stock Company and parishioners of Bien Hoa Parish in Tran Bien Ward, participated in a blood donation drive. On August 13, a total of 406 cadres, Party members, youth union members, and society members working in Phu Rieng Commune donated blood. On August 27, 278 cadres, trade union members, association members, and residents participated in a blood donation drive in Bu Dang Commune.

Nguyen Thanh Duong, a resident of Bien Hoa Ward who participated in the voluntary blood donation drive at Bien Hoa Parish on August 25, said he had donated blood for the second time in 2026 in response to an appeal from the ward and city red cross societies. He added that he would arrange to donate blood for a third time before the end of 2026 if his health remained stable.

Implementing coordinated measures

The contributions of voluntary blood donors have helped replenish vital blood supplies at medical facilities in a timely manner. These meaningful acts also helped Dong Nai rank second in southern Vietnam and 19th nationwide in 2025 for the volume collected through voluntary blood donations. The city is striving to maintain this achievement in 2026.

With nearly two months remaining to fulfill its assigned blood collection target for 2026, Dong Nai City plans to organize 28 voluntary blood donation drives while continuing to operate the fixed blood donation site at Dong Nai General Hospital.

To achieve the target, the Dong Nai City Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation and the Dong Nai Red Cross Society have been implementing a range of measures. In particular, the Dong Nai Red Cross Society has proactively worked with densely populated communes and wards, as well as enterprises with large workforces, to develop blood donation schedules. As a result, communes, wards, and enterprises have taken the initiative to register monthly blood donation schedules. The Dong Nai Red Cross Society has also worked closely with business owners and trade unions to arrange flexible blood collection schedules, creating the most favorable conditions for donors, ensuring maximum safety, and minimizing disruptions to production activities.

Given the locality's large religious population, the Dong Nai Red Cross Society has continued coordinating with religious organizations to hold voluntary blood donation drives directly at religious establishments. These activities have made it more convenient for religious dignitaries, officials, and followers to participate in blood donation and help save lives.

Communication activities are also carried out to inform residents about blood donation times and locations, allowing them to choose suitable options. Particular attention has been paid to maintaining connections with previous blood donors. This approach has proved effective, with repeat donors, or those who continue donating after their first donation, accounting for 85% of blood donors in Dong Nai, 30% higher than the national average.

Alongside charitable and humanitarian activities, voluntary blood donation has always held a particularly important place, reflecting the traditions of compassion and kindness among the people of Dong Nai. The City Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation and the Dong Nai Red Cross Society sincerely hope that residents will continue to uphold the noble act of donating blood to save lives by actively participating in voluntary blood donation activities organized in 2026.

Ha Trung Kien, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Red Cross Society

For Pham Thanh Vinh, a resident of Tran Bien Ward who has donated blood 26 times, voluntary blood donation is a humanitarian act of profound significance. Vinh said blood donation was more than a medical term; it represented a noble gesture reflecting compassion and responsibility toward society and the community, in keeping with the slogan, "One drop of blood given – one life saved." He said he would continue donating blood as long as his health permitted.

According to Ha Trung Kien, in addition to encouraging residents to actively donate blood, the City Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation and the Dong Nai Red Cross Society have placed strong emphasis on emulation and commendation activities to recognize repeat blood donors, exemplary blood-donating families, and agencies, units, and enterprises that proactively organize voluntary blood donation drives. These commendation activities encourage individuals and collectives to continue participating in the voluntary blood donation movement.
