Considering an appropriate scale for road connecting to Tan Hien Bridge

Huong Lo 6 in Tan Trieu Ward serves as a key traffic artery connecting Tan Hien Bridge with other roads in the region. However, this road, which is currently being upgraded, is planned with fewer lanes than Tan Hien Bridge.

It has therefore been proposed that the scale of Huong Lo 6 be reviewed and adjusted to ensure consistency with that of Tan Hien Bridge.

Enhancing traffic capacity, improving local landscape

Construction of the Huong Lo 6 Upgrade Project officially began at the end of 2025. The project involves upgrading nearly 3 km of Huong Lo 6, from its intersection with Huong Lo 15 to its intersection with Tan Hien Road at the Ba Mieu ferry terminal. The road will be fully paved with hot-mix asphalt concrete, with four lanes and a 13-meter-wide carriageway.

Huong Lo 6 terminates at the Ba Mieu ferry terminal, the planned site of Tan Hien Bridge on the Dong Nai City side. The bridge will connect Dong Nai City with Ho Chi Minh City.

The Huong Lo 6 Upgrade Project is being implemented to develop a synchronous and modern infrastructure system in Tan Trieu Ward, thereby enhancing the road's traffic capacity, improving the local landscape, better serving residents' travel and freight needs, and creating momentum for socio-economic development.

According to Nguyen Linh, Deputy Director of the Dong Nai Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (TCIPMB), the project was previously managed by the Regional Project Management Board 9 and was subsequently transferred to the Dong Nai TCIPMB for continued implementation. As of the end of August 2026, the project's total completion value had exceeded 7%. The Dong Nai TCIPMB is coordinating with relevant agencies and local authorities to accelerate land clearance, with a view to ensuring the project's completion in 2026. The units concerned are currently working together to finalize compensation and support plans for the approximately 100 remaining cases within the project area.

According to the Dong Nai TCIPMB, the Tan Hien Bridge Project is expected to be approved in the fourth quarter of 2026, with construction scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027.

Studying appropriate scale to maximize project effectiveness

The Tan Hien Bridge Project, which will span the Dong Nai River and connect Thuong Tan Commune in Ho Chi Minh City with Tan Trieu Ward in Dong Nai City, is one of the road bridge projects that the two localities have agreed to implement and invest in. The project aims to improve traffic connectivity, facilitate socio-economic development, and meet residents' travel needs.

Nguyen Anh, a resident of Tan Trieu Ward, said that travel and trade on both banks of the Dong Nai River in the area have so far depended on the Ba Mieu ferry terminal. Therefore, when news emerged that Tan Hien Bridge would be built, residents were very excited and hoped construction would begin soon to make their commutes more convenient.

Huong Lo 6 is being upgraded to four lanes.

In early 2026, the Government Office issued a notice conveying the opinion of government leaders, approving the appointment of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee (now the Dong Nai City People's Committee) as the governing body for the Tan Hien Bridge Project in accordance with the Law on Public Investment for projects spanning two provincial-level administrative units. By the end of July 2026, the Dong Nai City People's Committee had approved the investment policy for the Tan Hien Bridge Project. The bridge is planned to have six lanes and a width of 33.5 meters, including a bridge section approximately 0.56 km long and an approach road section 0.58 km long.

At this scale, Tan Hien Bridge will have two more lanes than Huong Lo 6, the road currently being built to connect to the bridge and other roads in the area.

In mid-August 2026, during a field inspection of public investment projects and a meeting with relevant units and Tan Trieu Ward, Thai Bao, Deputy Secretary of the Dong Nai City Party Committee and Head of the City Party Committee's Organization Commission, requested that relevant units evaluate the investment scale of the Huong Lo 6 Upgrade Project against that of the Tan Hien Bridge Project. He urged the units concerned to propose appropriate solutions to avoid multiple rounds of land clearance when bringing the road's scale into alignment with that of the bridge.

Do Thanh Phuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, stated, "Regarding the Huong Lo 6 Upgrade Project, the Department of Construction has worked with local authorities and agreed to request that the Dong Nai TCIPMB reassess traffic volume. This will be reported to the City Party Committee’s Standing Board for consideration of an appropriate investment scale to ensure the projects' effectiveness."
