On the occasion of World Environment Day (June 5) and World Oceans Day (June 8), Party General Secretary and State President To Lam wrote an article delivering his strong message on building an ecological civilization.
In his article, the top leader emphasized that: “A modern and prosperous society must be one that knows how to create wealth within ecological limits.” For a major industrial center like Dong Nai, this is not merely a call to action but an urgent requirement to reshape its development model.
Party General Secretary and State President To Lam outlined six major tasks, placing particular emphasis on the need to “renew development thinking.” This direction is expected to serve as a guiding principle for Dong Nai’s actions, requiring coordinated efforts from local Party Committee, authorities, residents, and the business community. Under this vision, businesses must regard environmental compliance not simply as a regulatory obligation but as a prerequisite for survival, while green innovation becomes a condition for competitiveness. Citizens, meanwhile, are encouraged to demonstrate environmental responsibility through practical actions such as waste sorting at source, reducing single-use plastics, saving energy, and planting trees, as highlighted in the top leader’s article: “Every tree planted is a hope for the future.”
In practice, Dong Nai has long pursued the principle of not sacrificing environmental protection for economic growth. Throughout its development process, the locality has consistently prioritized environmental conservation, the development of green economy and circular economy, as well as climate adaptation strategies. These commitments have been reflected in achievements related to forest conservation and biodiversity protection. While being one of Vietnam’s major industrial centers, Dong Nai is also regarded as a “green lung” of the Southeastern region, home to a world biosphere reserve and two national parks. This provides an important foundation for improving quality of life and ensuring sustainable long-term development.
As the country’s seventh city, Dong Nai now faces what many describe as a historic mission: creating a development model that is prosperous, humane, and modern while still preserving green rivers and vast forests for future generations. Ultimately, environmental protection requires participation from everyone. Even small actions — planting a tree or reducing the use of single-use plastics — can contribute meaningfully toward ensuring a greener and more sustainable future for Vietnam.
