(ĐN)- Dong Nai province’s Committee for Catholic Solidarity has recently organized a conference to review the five-year patriotic emulation movement in the 2005-2009 period. The conference was attended by Deputy Chairman and General Secretary of the Vietnam Committee for Catholic Solidarity Phan Khac Tu.
Over the past five years, Catholic followers in the province have actively responded to patriotic emulation movements and made practical contributions to socio-charitable activities. Particularly, more than VND223 billion was raised to build charity houses and classrooms, award scholarships, offer charity meals for poor patients, care for handicapped people, orphans and single elders. Catholic followers also took the initiative in raising funds to help the poor, and rebuild roads, as well as providing free healthcare services to poor people.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen Xuan Chien highly appreciated the contributions made by Catholic followers to the construction and development of the province. He also expressed his wish that they would continue to actively take part in patriotic emulation movements and follow the motto “living the gospel amidst the nation”, further contribute to the province’s social and economic development goals.
