Since September, floods have left 173 dead and missing and 168 injured and caused widespread damage to property estimated at more than VND8,500 billion, according to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam(GSO).
The two heavy floods occurred in October with Quang Binh reporting 72 deaths and VND1,900 billion in property damage, following by Ha Tinh (31 deaths and VND5,200 billion) and Nghe An (30 deaths and VND1,200 billion.)
The two floods destroyed nearly 700 houses, submerged more than 400,000 houses and 51,000ha of crops. Nearly 20,000 ha of aquaculture were ruined and nearly 280km of dykes, more than 330km of canals and more than 1,000km of roads were damaged. Nearly 1,400 electric poles collapsed.
