Workers in hospital after stale rice for lunch

Over 300 workers of the Taiwanese Pousung Viet Nam Company in Dong Nai Province were rushed to hospital last Friday after having lunch provided by their employer.

Over 300 workers of the Taiwanese Pousung Viet Nam Company in southern Dong Nai Province were rushed to hospital last Friday after having lunch provided by their employer. Many of them were admitted in an unconscious state and others were vomiting and suffering from diarrhoea.

The rice provided for workers was found to be stale, smelly and curdled, and workers said their food was rotten and inedible. They began vomiting and suffering diarrhoea attacks within five minutes of beginning their lunch.

The Trang Bom General Hospital admitted around 200 workers and 124 other workers were brought to the Bien Hoa-based General Hospital in the Thong Nhat Area. Among the victims, five were pregnant women who reported difficulties in breathing.

The workers accused the company of frequently providing them with bad-quality food despite several complaints made to the company’s managers.

Provincial and district authorities have taken samples of food and water from the meals to investigate the main cause of food poisoning.
