Seventy-six companies in Dong Nai Province found violating environmental regulations have been given a deadline to comply with city standards, according to the director of the province’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

Le Viet Hung said the province, working with the provincial Industrial Parks Management Board, met on Tuesday to discuss and finalise the penalties handed out to companies in violation of the rules.
During an initial inspection last year, provincial authorities detected violations at the companies and told them to upgrade their waste water treatment systems and other devices such as flow meters and automatic monitoring within 10 months.
If they do not meet compliance within that timeframe, the companies were told they would receive stiff penalties or have their operations suspended.
The province agreed to draw VND20 billion from the Environmental Protection Fund to support and help offending companies, and also set up a date for a second inspection.
Hung predicted that half of the companies in the province would have to close down after the second inspection because of their failure to meet waste water discharge standards.
