Provincial leaders meet Buddhist dignitaries on occasion of Buddhist Day of Vesak

(ĐN)- Representatives of the provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee met late last week with high dignitaries, monks and nuns in Dong Nai on the occasion of the upcoming United Nations Day of Vesak.

Also present at the meeting was Tran Dinh Thanh, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council.

The United Nations Day of VESAK 2008-the Buddha’s 2552nd birthday falls on May 19 (lunar April 15). The event which is to be held in Vietnam for the first time will create a good opportunity for promoting the image of Vietnam to friends worldwide.

Addressing at the meeting, Mr. Tran Dinh Thanh called local monks, nuns and followers to take part in significant activities for marking the United Nations Day of Vesak.

The dignitaries expressed their pleasure for the UN Vesak Day celebration that is held for the first time in Vietnam. They also thanked the authorities for their concern and support in making preparations for the forthcoming UN Vesak Day.
