From the start, the programme received active support from Happy Cook Company Limited that is a wholly owned Korean company located in Bien Hoa 2 industrial zone, Dong Nai province. The scholarships are given out annually for poor and disadvantaged students.
“The scholarship programme aims at helping poor and disadvantaged students to go through school. The scholarship is designed to not only provide financial assistance for poor and disadvantaged students but also give strength for them to overcome their difficulties to continue studying” Do Trung Tien, Deputy-Editor-in-chief said.
The programme organisers were extremely excited about scholarship applications submitted by poor students in which not only expressed feeling of sadness of them because their families suffered poor living conditions but also showed confident of a bright future. 197 scholarships will be awarded to outstanding poor students across the province this year. The recipients have different circumstances. Out of total number of recipients, 40 are partial orphans, 11 are complete orphans, 17 live without fathers, 20 are children of divorced parents while rest are homeless and children of poor families …. In the cases of recipients who are living in Bien Hoa city, 6 are partial orphans, 2 are complete orphans, 7 are children of ill parents having mental health problems and children of disabled parents. Particularly, Nguyen Vu Binh Minh, 5th form boy, live in Bien Hoa city with his disabled mother and has father died as a result of dioxin contamination; Pham Thanh Hien, 7th form boy, has father died and live with his mother in poor mental health; Nguyen Thanh Viet, 4th form boy, is a child of a divorced parent and staying with paternal grandparents in Dinh Quan district, Dong Nai province ….

During the past years, Dong Nai Newspaper’s social programs have helped thousands of poor students overcome difficulties to continue their study. Particularly, “Overcoming the present difficulties for brilliant future" scholarships have been granted to outstanding poor students; “Hoang Minh Chau” scholarships for typical students who are children of civil servants, policy beneficiaries, and party members; 100,000 notebooks for pupils living in remote areas, 200 bicycles for poor students who have no vehicle to go to school. During the past years, “Overcoming the present difficulties for brilliant future" scholarship donated by Happy Cook made important contributions to helping poor students to pursue their dreams, encouraging the students to continue their study for a better future. Mr. Woi Suk Choi, Chairman of Happy Cook Company’s Management Board hoped that the scholarships not only motivate students’ efforts in studying but also help them become good citizens who would be willing to help others.
