Building Dong Nai into a modern city, rich in cultural identity

Although it is the country’s youngest  city, Dong Nai (including the former Binh Phuoc area) has long been regarded as a “capital” in multiple sectors,  including industry, livestock breeding, and cashew and rubber production. These titles partly reflect Dong Nai’s significant role in economic development and underscore its important contributions to the state budget over the years.

Dong Nai also possesses a strategic advantage as a transportation gateway for both the region and the country, with an increasingly modern and synchronized transport infrastructure network. This serves as a crucial foundation for the city to position itself as a national and regional logistics center. At the same time, it provides favorable conditions for attracting both domestic investment and foreign direct investment (FDI) in high-tech industries, high-tech agriculture, trade and services, and tourism development.

Alongside its dynamic and modern growth, Dong Nai’s urban landscape carries deep cultural layers that form the core foundation of its unique identity and appeal. These cultural values are reflected not only through archaeological relics but also in the daily cultural and spiritual life of local communities. They can be heard in the gong performances of the S’tieng, Choro and Chau Ma ethnic groups; in the ‘dan tinh’ (a kind of handmade gourd lute) melodies and Then folk singing of the Tay and Nung ethnic communities; and seen in traditional brocade costumes as well as the distinctive blue-green floral glaze of Bien Hoa ceramics.

These cultural characteristics not only preserve collective memory and shape cultural spaces, but also represent resources for sustainable economic development, particularly for tourism development. More importantly, they contribute to improving the cultural and spiritual well-being of residents so that people may enjoy not only prosperity but also happiness.

To ensure harmonious and sustainable development, alongside implementing the three strategic breakthroughs in infrastructure, human resources, and science and technology, Dong Nai City must also pay greater attention to preserving and promoting cultural values. This orientation was clearly outlined in the Resolution of the First Congress of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee (now the Dong Nai City Party Committee) for the 2025-2030 term, which states: “People are the center, the subject, the resource and the goal of the development process. Traditional cultural values must be preserved and promoted; material and spiritual life for the people, especially ethnic minority, religious and border communities, must be improved; development gaps among localities and regions must be narrowed. It is also necessary to build the people of Dong Nai to be comprehensively developed, friendly, and compassionate.”

Politburo’s Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW dated January 7, 2026 on the development of Vietnamese culture also affirms that cultural and human development constitute a foundation and endogenous resource, a powerful driving force and a key pillar for the country’s rapid and sustainable development. The resolution emphasizes that cultural values must be closely integrated into all aspects of social life — from politics, socio-economic development and environmental protection to national defense, security and foreign affairs, thereby becoming a source of national soft power in the new era.

These major policies and orientations on cultural development serve as guiding principles for Dong Nai City to continue promoting its cultural heritage, ensuring that heritage remains vibrant in contemporary life and contributes to transforming Dong Nai into a civilized, modern and culturally rich city marked by compassion and identity.
