(ĐN) - The 19th plenum of the Dong Nai provincial People’s Council, seventh tenure, opened on June 30. After the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dinh Quoc Thai presented a report on the province’s socio-economic situation in the first half and tasks for the remaining months of the year.
According to the report, Dong Nai’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 13 percent year-on-year in the first half to VND16,991 billion, fulfilling 47.6 percent of the yearly plan. Export turnover was US$3.4 billion, a 26.6 percent year-on-year increase, while import turnover reached more thanUS$4.2 billion, up over 52.7 percent. In this period, the province lured more than US$502 million, 6.8 times higher than that of last year. Dong Nai effectively implemented national programs such as poverty reduction, job creation, clean water and rural environment hygiene, population and birth-control, prevention and control of a number of social diseases, education, food hygiene and safety, drug control and crime prevention, etc. Traditional sports and cultural activities have frequently been held, meet the demands of local people. Speaking at the session, Thai also addressed the challenges and the shortcomings in high input material prices, site clearance and resettlement, unfavorable weather conditions in Dong Nai.
In the last six months, the provincial People’s Committee will take some specific measures to meet the 2010 GDP growth target of 12 percent, strive to create new jobs to 85,000 laborers, reduce the poor household rate to 4.27 percent, increase the rate of wards and communes meeting the national healthcare standard to 100 percent.
