A summer blood donation campaign was launched in Dong Nai on June 14 by the provincial Red Cross Association.
The campaign aims to collect around 5,000 blood units to partly deal with blood shortages in early summer.
According to the report from the provincial Steering Board for Humanitarian Blood Donation, the number of blood donors in Dong Nai has increased significantly since 2004. Accordingly, the province collected 3,038 units of blood in 2004 and the figure increased to 14,568 units in 2009. However, the donated blood has only met about one-half of the volume required.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Director of Department of Home Affairs Nguyen Dem called on people across the province to actively participate in blood donation movements for community health.
