Pepper price rises in Dong Nai

(ĐN)- At present, the black pepper prices in Dong Nai go up to VND60,000-61,000 a kilogram, up VND 20,000 compared to the beginning of the harvest season.

(ĐN)- At present, the black pepper prices in Dong Nai go up to VND60,000-61,000 a kilogram, up VND 20,000 compared to the beginning of the harvest season. The pepper price is at its highest level in recent years. The black pepper price is soaring due to a nearly 30 per cent decline in pepper output in the country. Vietnam has been the world’s largest pepper producer and exporter since 2001, with Germany, India and the US being the biggest importers. The price is expected to increase further this year due to a global supply shortfall. The recent unfavorable weather  caused a decline in pepper output.

Dong Nai now has more than 7,000 hectares under pepper cultivation, with an average yield of nearly 2 tons per ha. Dong Nai is now ranked third in the country in the area under pepper cultivation.
