(ĐN) – In response to World Environment Day, the Provincial Youth Union in coordination with the Provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment on Sunday held a ceremony to launch the 2010 volunteer youth campaign at the Provincial Conference Centre in Dong Nai. Also present at the event were Head of the Mass Mobilization Department of the Provincial Party Committee Bui Ngoc Thanh and Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Committee Huynh Thi Nga.

This year campaign entitled ‘Volunteer youth together with poor communes overcome difficulties’ will draw the participation of 2,000 people including the soldiers and policemen, 300 students across the province and almost 7,000 youths at localities.
Under the campaign, volunteers will join practical activities in remote areas of the province such as: helping local people upgrade and build rural roads as well as dredge canals, building houses of compassion for the poor, providing health consultancy and examination to the poor, giving medicine to patients and so on.
At the ceremony, the provinical leaders and youth union members participated in the programme called “a million signatures, a million actions for the environment” launched by the Vietnam Students Association (VSA). The campaign is aimed raising environmental awareness among Youth Union members, students and pupils. The programme is expanded to all Youth Union member-associations nationwide, in an effort to collect a million signatures on its website, setting a national record for the number of people taking part in an environmental protection campaign.
