18th session of the 7th Provincial People’s Council opens

(ĐN)- The 18th session of the 7th Provincial People’s Council opened on December 8 in Dong Nai with the presence of representatives from the Standing Committee of National Assembly, the government and ministries.

In his opening speech, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council Tran Dinh Thanh said 2009 was the toughest and most challenging year for economic development in Dong Nai province as the impact of the global economic downturn was felt across the country. However, the provincial leaders and local people have made efforts to overcome difficulties to maintain a high growth rate of 9.3 per cent in 2009 against the target set in the resolution of the 8^th Provincial Party Congress of 8.5 per cent. Thanks to joint efforts by local agencies, localities’ authorities, businesses and people, the province has maintained reasonable growth rate while ensuring social welfare and improving people’s standard of living. Dong Nai has now emerged as one of the most dynamic economies in the South region.

Thanh also stressed that the year 2010 would be the final year for the implementation of the five-year plan (2006-2010) under the Resolution of the 8^th Provincial Party Congress. He called on local agencies, localities’ authorities, and people to overcome difficulties to fulfill the set targets, successfully realizing the socio-economic development plan for 2010 and the five-year plan 2006-2010.

During the 3-day session, delegates participate in discussion of the implementation of socioeconomic tasks in 2009 and goals and tasks for 2010.

Also in the session, delegates will discuss socio-economic development plan for 2010, the provincial budget estimate and the budget allocation plan for 2010 and other matters.

The session will be closed on December 10.
