(ĐN)- On October 8, a supervision delegation of the provincial People’s Council had a working session with People’s Committee of Cam My district on poverty reduction work in 2009
According to the new national poverty standard, Cam My was said to have high percentage of poor households with over 15 percent. Therefore, the district has concentrated its efforts on the implementation of poverty reduction program. Particularly, it has mobilized donations from organizations to assist poor families, helped nearly 1,000 difficult households to access loans with a total capital of more than VND3 billion, reduced school fees and awarded scholarships for excellent poor students, granted free health insurance cards to poor people, provided vocational training and solved jobs for local laborers, etc. Moreover, the district raised over VND3.2 billion to build 150 charitable houses and 36 houses for poor ethnic minority households under programme 134 of the government
At the working session, the delegation praised efforts made by the Cam My district and stressed that additional necessary support measures should be considered to speed up the implementation of poverty reduction work in the coming time.
