(ĐN)- Director of the Dong Nai Health Department Tu Thanh Chuong remarked during a meeting on Tuesday to discuss on prevention and control of infectious diseases that new and emerging infectious diseases are spreading rapidly around the province threatening the health of local residents. Especially, the A/H1N1 flu virus has now spread to 11 localities across the province. The total number of laboratory confirmed A/H1N1 flu infections in the province has risen to 304 with two deaths and two patients being in serious conditions at hospitals in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh city. Besides, the hospitals handled nearly 1,000 suspected cases of the disease.
Chuong also said that the number of cases is still growing though the local health sector has made efforts to curb the spread of the disease in the province. So far, the disease has hit as many as 35 schools across the province.
Aside from the H1N1 virus, Dong Nai also faces threats of other infectious diseases including petechial fever, hand, foot, mouth disease and acute diarrhoea.
