Dong Nai’s gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated at more than VND23.6 trillion and has grown by 8 percent in Jan-Sept period. The growth rate is 1.8 times the nation’s figure.
Industrial production in the province increased 8.1 percent over the same period last year, reaching VND60.7 trillion.
The province’s retail sales reached nearly VND30 trillion in the first nine months, a year-on-year increase of 20.7 percent.
Dong Nai’s consumer price index rose by 0.31 percent over August and by 3.16 percent against the last year’s figure.
In the same period, the province has created jobs for over 71,000 laborers, provided loans for job creation to 600 people and sent 20 skilled workers abroad for working.
However, the participants pointed out the province’s restrictions in socio-economic development during the first nine months of this year, citing less foreign direct investment. Over the past nine months, Dong Nai has attracted more than US$700 million in FDI, fulfilling 35 per cent of the year’s target, decreasing 72.8 percent from the corresponding period last year.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Vo Van Mot proposed the departments, agencies and localities’ authorities to make more efforts to curb the economic slowdown and sustain steady growth.
