16th session of the 7th Provincial People’s Council opens

(ĐN)- The sixteenth session of the 7th Provincial People’s Council opened in Dong Nai on July 14 with a focus on re-adjusting the economic growth targets and devising effective measures and solutions to fulfill socio-economic tasks for 2009. The session was presided over by Mr. Huynh Chi Thang, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Council.

In the first six months of this year, Dong Nai’s GDP growth increased by 7.14 percent and the province remained positive growth rate compared to other areas in the country.

However, provincial People’s Committee reports also pointed out that most of the targets for economic growth in the first half were actually lower than those of the same period in previous years.

Accordingly, the committee called on the agencies, localities’ authorities, businesses and people to join effort in maintaining a reasonable and sustainable economic growth rate and ensuring social and political stability.

At this session, the Council will consider to lower the province’s GDP growth rate in 2009 to 8.5% from the targeted 14.5%.
