Fish raised on rafts on the La Nga River in Dinh Quan District in the southern province of Dong Nai have died in large numbers since last week.

Farmers said contaminated water was responsible. Last March and April, nearly 300 tonnes of fish died in the district. The loss, valued at VND7 billion (US$411,760), was traced to a waste water discharge.
Farmers recently rejected a compensation offer of more than US$86,000 from the Mauri La Nga and La Nga Sugarcane companies.
