HIV/AIDS prevention and control work in Dong Nai

(ĐN)- On November 4, a supervision delegation of the provincial People’s Council had a working session with the Provincial Centre for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control on HIV/AIDS prevention and control work in Dong Nai in 2007 and in the first nine months of 2008.

(ĐN)- On November 4, a supervision delegation of the provincial People’s Council had a working session with the Provincial Centre for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control on HIV/AIDS prevention and control work in Dong Nai in 2007 and in the first nine months of 2008.

According to the Provincial Centre for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, there are 7,233 HIV-infected people in Dong Nai, including about 119 AIDS patients. Particularly, 381 new HIV cases were reported in the first eight months of 2008.  

The delegation also visited Dong Nai Province’s Paediatrics Hospital to learn about care and treatment of HIV-infected children. The Hospital reported to the delegation that it provided outpatient care and treatment to children infected/affected by HIV/AIDS through its clinic specializing in treating infectious diseases in early this month.

The delegation acknowledged the present difficulties faced by the Provincial Centre for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control and the province’s Paediatrics Hospital. The delegation also urged the Provincial Centre for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control to become active in efforts to support the province’s Paediatrics Hospital and to develop policies that will provide support to HIV/AIDS peer educators as well as provide support to measures and actions aiming at HIV/AIDS prevention in the province.
