A plan to build a 54.9km expressway linking Ho Chi Minh City to Dau Giay in southern Dong Nai province, was discussed by relevant agencies in Ho Chi Minh City on Sept. 11.

The 9.7 trillion VND (609 million USD) project will help link three major economic centres in the south - Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Dong Nai provinces.

The road will start at HCM Citys second beltway and end at Km 1829+800 of National Highway 1A in Dong Nais Thong Nhat district. It will cross the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressway at Long Thanh district of Dong Nai.

A total of 19 bridges, including the Long Thanh Bridge, will be built on the new route.

The first phase of the project, invested by the Viet Nam Expressway Corporation (VEC), is expected to be carried out between 2007 and 2010
