National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An arrived in New York on Sept. 6 to attend the second Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) from September 7-9.

An and his entourage were welcomed at the Kennedy Airport by Vietnamese Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Le Luong Minh and Vietnamese people working and studying in New York.
An will join more than 150 parliamentary leaders worldwide to discuss how to strengthen the role of parliaments in international issues, to assist reform efforts to enhance the UN’s role and efficiency, and to expedite the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals set by the 2000 Summit of the UN General Assembly.
