The Republic of Korea will pass the chairmanship of the APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting to Vietnam during this year’s event, to be held on September 8-9, a Vietnamese official said Wednesday.

A Vietnamese delegation led by Finance Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung would attend the 12th Finance Ministers’ Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, or APEC, forum in Jeju, Korea, Deputy Trade Minister Le Thi Bang Tam told a press conference.

Hung would make a 15-minute presentation at the meeting, including a six-minute video clip, on Vietnam, its people and social and economic achievements, Tam said.

As the chair of the APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting in September 2006, Vietnam would also host FMM’s 20th and 21st Technical Working Group Meetings in December 2005 and June 2006, as well as the Finance and Central Bank Deputies’ Meeting, all in Hanoi, she added.

The themes for this year’s meeting will be “Free and Stable Movement of Capital” and “Meeting the Challenge of Ageing Economies,” according to the official brochure.

The Finance Ministers meeting was first held in 1994 in Honolulu, the US. Since then, they have met annually, most recently in September 2004 in Santiago, Chile.

In between the annual meetings, Finance and Central Bank Deputies and Technical Working Group meetings are also held.
