| An overview of the conference |
Over the past five years, the “Brighter Eyes of Vietnam” program has become a practical social welfare initiative, contributing to public healthcare, particularly for policy beneficiaries, relatives of officers and soldiers, and disadvantaged people in areas where Army Corps 16 is stationed. Under the program, Military Hospital 175, Army Corps 16 and Truong Tuoi Group have jointly organized nine eye examination, consultation and screening campaigns for more than 2,300 people. More than 250 eye surgeries have been performed, with a 100% success rate, at a total cost of more than VND2 billion.

To ensure treatment quality, highly qualified doctors and medical staff, supported by modern equipment at Military Hospital 175 and Military-Civilian Hospital 16, have carried out examinations, screenings, consultations and surgical procedures in accordance with medical protocols. The participating units have also ensured adequate supplies of medicines and medical equipment, as well as the necessary conditions for postoperative care and follow-up examinations, helping improve treatment quality and ensure patient safety.
The program has not only restored sight to hundreds of disadvantaged people but also helped raise public awareness of eye care and the prevention of eye diseases. It has also demonstrated the responsibility, solidarity and compassion of VPA officers and soldiers and participating businesses toward the community.
Speaking at the conference, General Nguyen Trong Nghia praised the significance and results of the program over the past five years. The restoration of sight for many policy beneficiaries and disadvantaged people through surgery demonstrates once again the responsibility and commitment of military units and businesses to public healthcare. It also helps strengthen military-civilian solidarity and contribute to building increasingly stable and strong economic-defense areas.
General Nguyen Trong Nghia called on the participating units to continue and expand the program alongside preventive healthcare efforts, improve healthcare quality by mobilizing social resources, and strengthen the role of grassroots healthcare networks while applying modern medical techniques. He stressed the need to work together with the political system to advance the goal of universal healthcare, particularly by ensuring that disadvantaged people have access to quality medical services, thereby bringing them restored sight, greater confidence and a better quality of life.
