Unlocking development potential along Dong Nai River

Dong Nai City has identified the redevelopment of the urban area along the Dong Nai River as a breakthrough task of strategic importance in its new development phase.

The 586km-long Dong Nai River, including more than 234km running through Dong Nai, is a valuable natural asset with significant economic, cultural, historical and scenic value. It is also an important resource for developing agriculture, industry, inland waterway transport and ecotourism, while creating new riverfront urban spaces.

According to a report by the city People's Committee, this potential has yet to be fully and effectively tapped. Riverfront areas have developed slowly and lack comprehensive planning, while technical infrastructure remains fragmented, architectural development lacks consistency, and relatively few cultural facilities have been established to serve local communities. In some areas, land has also been used inefficiently, with scattered warehouses, small ports and temporary structures. These shortcomings not only hamper riverfront urban development but also affect the environment.

Based on Politburo Resolution No. 16-NQ/TW, dated July 21, 2026, on building and developing Dong Nai City through 2035, with a vision to 2065, the city will accelerate efforts to expand its development space toward the Dong Nai River. Accordingly, the city will redevelop riverfront space to make more effective use of the river's scenic value, land resources, and economic and cultural advantages, creating new momentum for urban development.
