On October 27, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) said it was coordinating with relevant authorities, transport infrastructure management agencies and local governments to study integrated traffic management solutions for the transport routes serving Phase 1 operations at Long Thanh International Airport.

According to ACV, most passengers using international flights at Long Thanh Airport are expected to travel to or from Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas. Therefore, transport connectivity, the organization of passenger services and the ability to ensure reliable travel times will directly affect passenger service quality and the airport’s operational efficiency.

During the airport’s initial operating phase, before connecting railway lines enter service, passenger transport between Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh Airport will rely primarily on roads. Two main connection routes are being considered: the Ho Chi Minh City–Long Thanh–Dau Giay Expressway combined with Nhon Trach Bridge, Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 and Road 25C; and the Ho Chi Minh City–Long Thanh–Dau Giay Expressway combined with the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau Expressway and the interchange connecting to the airport.

Along these corridors, relevant authorities, transport infrastructure management agencies and local governments are coordinating to study integrated traffic management solutions. Key priorities include managing traffic flows farther upstream, strengthening connections between different modes of transport and developing high-capacity public transportation, enabling passengers to reach the airport conveniently and safely while planning their journeys with confidence.

ACV is working with state management agencies, local authorities and transport operators to study a passenger transport network suited to the airport’s operational needs. In Dong Nai City, coordination efforts focus on organizing traffic, regulating vehicle movements, and ensuring security and safety on roads leading to the airport. Relevant authorities will step up patrols and checks, promptly address situations as they arise, and work to reduce the risk of traffic congestion at key access points.

In Ho Chi Minh City, ACV is working with relevant departments and agencies to study the development of a public passenger transport network connecting to Long Thanh Airport. A direct transport service between Tan Son Nhat Airport and Long Thanh Airport is one of the key options under consideration. It would make travel between the two airports more convenient, particularly for passengers connecting between flights.

Options for organizing coach, shuttle bus and other transport services are also being studied, with a focus on establishing consistent schedules and service frequencies suited to the specific requirements of aviation operations. The goal is to establish a continuous transport network that meets the travel needs of passengers, flight crews and workers, including outside regular office hours.

ACV has proposed studying preferential traffic arrangements for airport buses and inter-airport shuttle services at selected major intersections along the main corridors connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh Airport. These measures aim to ensure more predictable journey times, improve service reliability and encourage passengers to use public transportation.
