Recently, the Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology (DoST), in coordination with relevant departments, agencies and organizations, has carried out activities to help businesses and cooperatives in the city access the Halal market and learn about the process for obtaining international Halal certification.

Deputy Director of the DoST Trinh Thi Hoa said Dong Nai has favorable conditions for developing Halal products for export. The department will step up coordination with relevant departments, agencies, localities and organizations to disseminate information on quality standards and Halal certification requirements, while guiding and supporting businesses in accessing and applying appropriate standards. These efforts are expected to help businesses improve product quality and enhance their capacity to participate in the Halal product supply chain.

The DoST has recently issued Plan No. 95/KH-SKHCN to develop and issue handbooks that guide the application of Halal standards for several key agricultural products and products under the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program.

The plan aims to develop and issue handbooks guiding the application of Halal standards to several groups of key agricultural products and OCOP products in Dong Nai with potential for production, processing and export. These are expected to include fresh agricultural produce, processed agricultural products, processed foods, medicinal herbs and beverages.

The handbooks will also provide businesses, cooperatives and production and business establishments with systematic, accessible guidance suited to actual local conditions, helping them identify the basic Halal requirements applicable to each product group. This will gradually guide them in preparing for and implementing Halal standards in production, processing, storage and trading activities.

The plan is intended to help organizations and individuals engaged in production and business proactively strengthen their capacity to meet the requirements of the Halal market, gradually helping local products gain access to Halal assessment and certification and expanding their markets.
