Promoting ESG practices and cutting energy costs in manufacturing

On September 22, the Technical Training and Labor Supply Center (STTC) under the Dong Nai Industrial Parks and Economic Zones Authority, in coordination with ABB Automation and Electrification (Vietnam) Company Limited, organized a seminar on “ESG Practices in Manufacturing: Solutions for Cutting Energy Costs Through Drive Systems and Measuring Actual Emission Reductions.” The event attracted a large number of business leaders, technical experts and representatives of enterprises across the city.

Speaking at the seminar, a representative of the Dong Nai Industrial Parks and Economic Zones Authority emphasized that amid the global green transition, adopting ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) standards and controlling carbon emissions have become essential to enhancing business competitiveness. Dong Nai has 44 operating industrial parks, attracting thousands of investment projects. The city is determined to effectively implement strategic plans and initiatives to develop eco-industrial parks, strive to turn Dong Nai into a green and smart city, significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and work toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

From a technical perspective, ABB experts said energy consumed by motor systems, including motors and drives, at conventional factories often accounts for up to 65% of total electricity consumption. This represents the greatest potential for enterprises to optimize energy costs. The seminar also introduced practical solutions, including optimizing drive-system efficiency while ensuring a rapid return on investment (ROI), as well as applying digital technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) to accurately measure and control CO2 emissions at minimal cost.

Through the seminar, the organizers expect Dong Nai’s business community to gain deeper access to advanced technological solutions, make use of green financing resources and benefit from administrative reform support, including a 30-50% reduction in processing time for administrative procedures. These measures are expected to help businesses overcome technical barriers, promote sustainable production and advance the circular economy.
