(ĐN)- Currently, the water-saving grids irrigate more than 5,000 ha of both industrial and fruit trees in Dong Nai. Particularly, Xuan Loc district has brought more than 2,000 hectares of coffee, pepper, mango and durian under this water saving irrigation method.
In 2012, Sinh invested to install the water-saving micro-irrigation system and apply suitable cultivation techniques for his 2.6 ha-coffee garden in Xuan Tam commune, Xuan Loc district. As a result, his coffee garden’s productivity increased from 2.5 tones/ha/yr to over 3 tones/ha/yr. The figure is expected to reach more than 3.5 tones this year.
According to Sinh, the benefits of water-saving irrigation practices are increase in crop yield, productivity, savings in irrigation water, input items like fertilizer and labour. Water-saving grids can save 30 percent of fertilizer and 70 percent of labour compared to traditional watering hoses.
As known, fields irrigated by such economical watering systems have experienced increases from 50 to 300 percent in productivity.
